- שַׁנְיָא, שַׁנְיָיאf. (שְׁנֵי) 1) different, a different thing.Targ. Prov. 10:14 שניא some ed., read: שֵׁצְיָא).Y.Dem.I, 21d bot. (read) לא ש׳ היא דבר … הואוכ׳ it makes no difference, (it is all the same) whether it is a plant the seed of which disappears (must be renewed every year) or Y.Pes.V, 32c לא ש׳ היא … היאוכ׳ it is all the same whether one slaughters a Passover sacrifice as a peace-offering or the reverse. Ib. X, end, 37d ש׳ היא it is a different case; a. fr.(V. שָׁאנֵי, s. v. שְׁנֵי. 2) strange thing, folly.Pl. שַׁנְיָן, שַׁנְיָין. Targ. Is. 30:10 (h. text מהתלות).
